Rowalt Alibudbud is a licensed psychiatrist and a faculty member of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine of the University of the Philippines – Manila and the Philippine General Hospital. He is also a fellow of the Philippine Psychiatric Association, a member of the Geopsychiatry Special Interest Group of the World Psychiatric Association, and a senior fellow of the International Institute of Geopsychiatry. He also previously taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the Department of Sociology and Behavioral Sciences at De La Salle University, Manila.

His work centers on gender, social justice, geopsychiatry, and mental health, with a particular focus on students, young people, and the LGBTQ+ community. He has authored over 100 publications. He has also served as a consultant and co-investigator on projects for government and non-governmental organizations, such as UNICEF and WHO.


He serves as an editor for the Philippine Journal of Psychiatry. He also previously serve as a member of the Editorial Development Board of The Lancet Psychiatry (Elsevier) from 2022 to 2024. Presently, he serves on the boards of the Journal of Lesbian Studies (Taylor & Francis) and Geopsychiatry (Elsevier). 

He was awarded the 2025 Outstanding Young Scientist for Psychiatry and Health Social Science by the National Academy of Science and Technology (Philippines) and was included in Stanford University’s list of the World’s Top 2% cited Scientists


Rowalt Alibudbud earned his Bachelor’s degree from De La Salle–Health Sciences Institute and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of the East–Ramon Magsaysay. He later obtained a Master’s degree in Health Social Science from De La Salle University Manila and completed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of the Philippines–Philippine General Hospital.
